Feature Request - Manually Linking Accounts Instead of Relying on Flinks

A way to manually link accounts using direct deposit information instead of relying on Flinks. I do not trust Flinks to keep my information safe. The way it is described on the related support page sounds like you only need the direct deposit information of the corresponding account (EFTs). It could be done in a similar way to how Tangerine and WS do it, where they do one or two small deposits and ask you to confirm the amounts to verify you own the account.

Another benefit of this method is that you do not need to trust a 3rd party with our information and prevent potentially violating the fraud protections our other accounts give us.

(Flinks actually did not work for me at all, and I currently have no way to transfer >3K to or from my Neo Financial accounts)

Can you not use an e-transfer? Should work fine for 3k.

I think OP wants to move more than $3k, that’s the point. You can do it in a series of e-transfers, if it’s not like $1m.

I have had trouble with the Flinks in the past myself. Did you try it on mobile or desktop?

I would do a series of etransfers, however, the amounts involved would exceed the standard weekly and monthly limits. I want to transfer a large sum to my savings account.

I’ve tried both, even going as far as to try a different computer altogether.

The other bank involved offers their own linking feature, however they say they want either a cheque or a direct deposit form with a ā€œbank stampā€ on it, which I do not think I can obtain from Neo. I am trying alternative methods with the other bank.

Sounds like a pain, sorry you’re going through it. Flinks has always worked for me eventually and there’s always e-transfers if you have a little more time.

I have no idea why they would require a bank stamp on the deposit info. The account numbers seem like the important bit and that’s easy to find in the app.

@Yeni-Neo might have ideas from a support perspective. Or someone else in the community might have a trick that could help.

I printed out the direct deposit form and had to mail it to them  . I have a feeling they might need a siguature on the form.

If you are able to, could you pass this feedback on to relevant departments. I think that a way to manually link accounts in contact with support would make this issue nonexistent, however I understand the security concerns involved. I am unsure of the exact information you are able to obtain from direct deposit information, however if it includes the name of the account holder, it should make verification a lot easier.

There should be a way to do it via support, fully agree. It might actually exist already, I’m hoping Yeni will surprise us with a positive answer. I’m less involved in support than she is.

Hopefully they take the deposit form. Support can definitely provide some official forms on letterhead because I had to get one for my wife’s PR application at one point. I don’t know if they do every single type of request though, I don’t think it had a signature, and this one might not be super common.

Thank you for letting me know about the ability to get official forms. I don’t know that they’ll be able to get whatever a ā€œbank stampā€ is, but maybe in a dramatic turn of events, it will work for the other bank regardless. I will try this soon, after Yeni responds.

I mentioned this in January:

You may check this post and its related one upthread. My wild guess on your other bank is Simplii, and if so, yes, they do need a stamped direct deposit form or pre-authorized debit form. Regarding ā€œmail it to themā€, you can also call them to request a secured email. After that, you can attach the stamped form electronically.

Happy to jump in here — sorry for the delay @GrantLahring_Neo.

Welcome to the community @dq4k0! :tada: I totally get the frustration here.

Here’s how we can help right now. You can grab your official Direct Deposit/PAD form straight from the Neo app. It comes on official letterhead and includes your transit, institution (829), and account numbers. Since we’re digital-first, we don’t use physical ink stamps. That said, most banks accept the official PDF as-is. If they only need your signature, you can simply sign it yourself.

On the mailing side, you can also skip Canada Post entirely. It’s worth checking with the other bank to see if they offer a secure email or upload link so you can send the Neo PDF directly and get things processed faster — just as @Wise suggested.

Appreciate the feedback.

Keep us posted on how it goes with the other bank!
