Cathay World Elite Mastercard Welcome Bonus

Got pretty frustrated with the online chat while typing this. They kept switching agents and none of them seem to be able to provide me with an answer. I just signed up the Cathay WE Mastercard since I always travel with Cathay. I already have other products with Neo. The first agent told me there are welcome bonus. Second agent told me there are two portions of bonus: 15,000 sign up bonus and $5,000 spending within 90 days bonus. Third agent, no able to provide any information after 20 minutes wait. I haven’t received/activated my physical card yet, so am I still eligible for the 15,000 Asia miles welcome bonus?

I am also a victim of this. I spent $5K and didn’t get the 25K bonus because Cathay WE is not my first Neo credit card. Unfortunately.

I just got off the phone with another agent. She “confirmed” that I am eligible even though this is not my first product, as long as I’ve never had a Cathay WE before. Now I don’t know which is true.

Welcome to the community @zoeyzhang819 ! :tada:
Sorry about the unclear communication with the support team. When did you apply for the card?If this is your first Cathay card, you are eligible for the bonus. It’s 15,000 Asia Miles for signing up, plus an additional 20,000 Asia Miles when you spend $5,000 within your first 90 days.
The spending bonus is issued after the 90-day period ends and can take up to 8 weeks to appear.

Sorry about this @JohnMichael, when did you apply for the card?

Thank you for replying! Yes this is my first Cathay WE.

Perfect! then you should be getting the bonus.

And I applied it like 2 hours ago.

The welcome bonus (15k miles) is processed within a few days of your account being opened, but can take up to 8 weeks to appear. The additional 20k miles are based on spending $5,000 within your first 90 days. These are issued after the 90-day period ends, not as soon as you hit the spending target, and can also take up to weeks to appear. The spending is calculated net of refunds and excludes the annual fee.

Hope this clears things up! @zoeyzhang819

Hello! I need your help to back track my 20K points additional. My first bill was September 2025 and I probably signed up Aug/Sept 2025. I am extremely furious remembering about what happened. I could have used my Neo WE for all the cashbacks or my Amex Cobalt to gain more Aeroplan 5 points per dollar for my restaurant purchases from Sept to Oct 2025.

Please read my response and do the necessary to get the additional 20K points. I got my 5K based on every purchase in the first three months.

Just to make sure I understand correctly, you were expecting the 25,000 spend bonus, but only received 5,000?

Yes, as stated I will get 25,000 miles if I spend $5,000 for the first three months. So the 5,000 has been issued as I spend but it’s not a bonus. I need the 20,000 which was not applied even after following the criteria.

Thanks for confirming, did you reach out to support at any point?

I hope we are not going in circles. I did reach out and if you could read my update before you responding, I said I was told Cathay is not my first Neo credit card which makes me inéligible. Nothing on the ad says that. This is obviously misleading because my experience with Amex, it doesn’t matter if you have an existing card. Neo should do the same because the bonus should be independent per card. Kindly back track my response so you don’t have to keep asking or probing. This is not what I deserve and wasting time for everyone.

Hey @JohnMichael, I totally understand. I went back and checked the eligibility criteria that were in place when you applied in August/September 2025. At that time, the welcome offer was only available to customers whose Cathay World Elite was their first Neo product. Since you already had another Neo product, you unfortunately didn’t qualify for the additional 20,000 miles under the terms that applied when you signed up.

I totally regret applying for Cathay WE and today I was charged for another $180 annual fee. I could not cancel the card anymore and suffer the consequences of having a lower credit score. Felt totally deceived by this promotion of 25K miles. Very disappointing!
