What to do if item from Neo store is sent back by courier?

Heard from someone else:

Customer cashed out rewards in Neo store to order an item. Items don’t come with tracking or any ability to see when they are arriving. When the item arrived, the person was not home. They got a sticker about attempted delivery and the item was sent back. No refund was requested because the customer was too shy to complain.

Was there a better way to address this?
