I may be a bit biased on this one, but as a bookkeeping and advisory firm owner, the one thing that is tough is that Neo can’t link with the accounting software for a direct feed, such as Xero or QuickBooks. When I import the pdf, it cannot read it, so if there was a way to use Finch or Plaid maybe to get the bookkeeping software integrated, life would be a day on the beach!
I might be mistaken as a newbie, but NEO doesn’t appear to have an arrangement with a brick-and-mortar bank to withdraw cash without incurring bank fees. For example, Tangerine uses Scotiabank, and Simplii uses CIBC and PC Financial has their machines at Shoppers Drugmart. As insane as it sounds, I’m noticing places like barber shops opting for cash only to avoid fees, at least in my area.
You’re not wrong, we have no relationship with a specific bank. But you can withdraw cash from any ATM for free with a Build membership.
Also, what is with barbershops are refusing to pay the processing fees? My barber refusing to accept credit is 1/3 of the reasons I switched to getting haircuts from my partner.
- Depositing checks 100% - It would make having Neo for my main chequing account more convent and appealing.
- Additional ways to earn cash back - Possibly through referrals or punch card transactions at certain retailers or retailer types.
- Additional Subscription options - Boosted cash back (RIP Perks).
- Additional ways to review transactions - Filter by merchant name.
- Additional ways to download transaction list - Only CSV is currently available. A PDF would be my preference.
Punch cards-style offers are available, but are you thinking of integrating with the merchants non-Neo system? That is a super cool idea.
Like a Klarna, thing? How does the BNPL company make money on it, that’s what I’ve always wondered.
Cash deposits is a big one for me.
I am a contractor and use QuickBooks for invoicing clients. I would like to see Neo Financial added so that I can link my accounts. Makes invoicing easier and bookkeeping.
I think my largest thing that I would love is the ability to integrate with Accounting software like Xero or Quickbooks. I may be biased with running a financial services business though!
Ok here’s a weird one but something I’ve run into recently and I’m not sure if I’m the only one however, a virtual cheque? I work festivals in the summer and only one festival out of all that I do wants a cheque (that they don’t even cash, it’s more of a security that you’ll clean up after yourself). So fine I’m out of cheques on my business account, I go to order more and the smallest number I can buy is 50 and after shipping and taxes it’s going to be $65!! I’m not going to be doing this festival for the next 50 years. Is there some alternative that Neo could offer? Perhaps not exactly what you’re looking for but thought I’d put it out there.
I have two ideas for the Maritimes, and another that I think I saw on the app yesterday but will need to investigate (so possibly 3, we’ll see!)
- More paired vendors for cash back options in the Maritimes, and better sorting when looking through the “my area” vendors. Many that I see I don’t recognise, and when I look into them they are in Calgary or Ontario. Not sure if this is an internal sorting issue or because we just don’t have that many partners down here (or if they’ve paid for visibility, but I’m not going to Calgary for 5% back at a restaurant, so…)
- I would LOVE if we did a monthly category for cash back, such as pets, health, organisation, home improvement, eating local, ice cream in August, anything like that. I understand that it may be impossible to sort “ice cream vendor” from different food vendors, but I would be happy to help as a Neo Insider to put labels on things in my region, or even to submit receipts (but this would require a lot of back-end work on the app, so likely not possible).
- This I may have seen pop up yesterday on my app, and kudos if so! An alert when you’re near a place that has a deal would be incredible. I bet a lot of people wouldn’t know that they wanted a Crumbl cookie until they found out they could get a little treat for getting themselves a little treat. It may not be possible to do, but it would be amazing to know that something I’ve been putting off buying would give me cash back, and would probably sway me into making the purchase.
Integrating with more online merchants as well as merchants outside the Neo system. While there are lots of online rewards partners, there are limited ones available locally living outside a major city.
Id like to see more investment accounts available. I could use an RESP account if it was available
That and online cheque deposits. Definitely a nice to have feature for the odd time I use it.
A budgeting tool!
Any company that would provide a really good budgeting tool would get much more support from me (reputationally and financially), and I hope it could be Neo!
Off topic but on topic, who else is ready to close their big bank accounts?
I know I am
hidden fees, monthly feees, etransfer fees.
LOL goodbye!
As a 25 year old trying to heavily save, and having worked at TD before….. it’s not worth it trust me.
I love this idea. I think it would really help differentiate Neo even more from other banks!
Would definitely provide incentives for more people to join!
I agree! Cheque deposits are essential, and the saving accounts need more flexibility for sure.
I agree with others, i think budgeting tools were you can for start set targets, limits and notifications when limits are approaching a 90% or have exceeded the target per category. Later on maybe more tools to further categorize spending, like as an example sometimes i have expenses that i dont want to be taken into consideration for a specific category, but having all clumped together can inflate my numbers.
This would be super helpful for budgeting as well as shared budget
100% agree on cheque deposits! That’s honestly one of the only reasons I haven’t closed my old bank account yet. I think I read somewhere it was in the works, would love to know the progress with that.
Cash Advance from Credit Card to Everyday Account if client has both.
