Hey Neo community! Let’s dive into the future of fintech! From AI-powered banking to digital wallets, there’s always something new shaking up the industry and it sounds like this is one topic you all are super excited about as well!
One trend I’m personally excited about is real-time payments. It’s making transferring money instant, easy, and seamless—no more waiting days for transactions to process! What’s the one technology or trend you think is going to change the game? Share your thoughts below—whether it’s something you’re excited to use or just curious to learn more about!
@leorezende You’ve shared some great insights before, so I’m also curious to hear from you on what fintech trend excites you most right now? Would love to hear what you think!
A more integrated platform to allow make investments
AI to detect unusal expenses and also to help us improve detercting we are going over our budget
Digital currency
I think personal finance management/optimization suggestions could be a key differentiator:
Using AI to help cut bill spending, negotiate lower rates, provide budgeting advice.
Those are great suggestions! AI for detecting unusual expenses and helping with budgeting would definitely be a game changer for keeping finances on track. What kind of investments would you like to see more integrated into a platform like Neo?
That’s a great point! Personal finance optimization through AI would definitely help people stay on top of their finances. How do you think AI could help negotiate bills or lower rates for everyday expenses?
I’m curious why has Canada not adopted QR code payments like other countries. Are there any legal or cultural reasons or is it just behind the rest of the world? If businesses wanted to accept QR code payments, would they be able to find a provider that offers it?
QR codes were used more in Europe than in Latin America in 2020, but the LATAM region is expected to have overtaken Europe markedly in 2025. However, forecasts predict that the Americas - including North America - will not come close to the market size of QR transactions in the Far East & China. The use of black box patterns for payments was not a common practice in either the United States or the United Kingdom (UK), as a 2020 survey found a clear minority of QR code users in both countries. This particular survey did not mention why it was the case - whether, for instance, people had security issues with QR or not - but it did provide information on where these payments were used: Typically, restaurants or bars were a preferred location for these types of mobile payments in the U.S. or UK.
Data and/or AI to help manage personal finances and budgets/spending would be super cool! The Insights screen and Spending tab within is an amazing starting point. It would be great if Neo can make spend categorizations more accurate or give us an easy way to provide feedback or fix them. For example, a pub in Vancouver came in under “Shopping” for me as a category which doesn’t give me much faith in the category totals - other similar examples exist within.
Hey @tkato this is super helpful feedback. I will start a new thread on this as an easy way for community members like yourself to jump in and let us know if they notice merchants that are not under the correct category.
Regarding the example you gave above, are you able to provide specifics of which merchant it was, as well as which specific location this merchant is at please? I will have our partnerships team look into this right away and have these miscategorized merchants allocated into their correct category. Let me know if you have any others as well please!
The pub Tst-Good Co Kits Vancouver Can showed under Shopping. I can appreciate that one is tricky, the “Tst” in the merchant name is confusing
www.icfvancouver.CA Vancouver Can showing under Shopping - this is a professional association of coaches that runs webinars and events, and charges for accreditation fees etc, “Expenses” might be a better fit?
Circle K - I appreciate this a challenging space since who’s to say if someone stopped at a gas station for Gas or for the convenience store. In my case, Circle K locations that aren’t at Gas stations where showing under Transportation.
Shopper’s Drug Mart - also a tough one they sell across multiple categories and who is to say why I stopped by on a given day
Rain or Shine Ice Cream Canada, Breka Bakery & Cafe, Purebread - each shows under Grocery but I would think they are a better fit under Food and Drink?
I recognize how tough these can be!
