Unathourized transactions in neo credit card

I’m sharing this to see if anyone else has experienced something similar with a Neo credit card.

On August 19, 2026, I had two unauthorized transactions from E-Z*PASSNY Payment, New York USA:

  • 10:34 PM: USD $824 → CAD $1,146.51
  • 10:36 PM: USD $515 → CAD $716.57

I have never travelled to New York, rented a vehicle there, or had an E-ZPass account. I had my physical card with me and did not authorize these transactions.

I disputed both transactions with Neo immediately after noticing them and blocked my card at that time.

Then, at 11:25 PM, another transaction was attempted:

  • USD $927 → CAD $1,289.83

Fortunately, it was declined because my card had already been blocked.

What concerns me is that I didn’t receive any OTP, verification code, or authentication request, and I didn’t click any suspicious E-ZPass links or messages.

I’ve reported the incident to Neo and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC).

@Yeni-Neo

I haven’t ever experienced outright fraudulent transactions going through thankfully.

  • Regarding an old card from a different institution, I did once preemptively replace that card when a company I had used it with suffered a massive data breach that would have exposed the details,
  • Regarding a different institution, I also once learned of an attempted fraudulent transaction (coincidentally in NY too, but for a much smaller amount) that was automatically blocked by the bank before even hitting the card – one of the few good things that place ever did. Unfortunately they didn’t mention this to me so I was simply left to wonder why my card wasn’t working and had to later contact support to investigate, but I digress.
  • At Neo and elsewhere, I’ve also had situations where I had a dispute with a transaction that I did personally make but later experienced other issues with.

I’m not sure if any of that is helpful to you, but at any rate, from what little I know of the Neo fraud department, they seem sophisticated and capable, so I hope you can get this resolved. I do know that there are any number of ways this can happen, and the liability and process of getting it cleared up will vary with that.

I think a key feature here that helped you was that you were on top of it immediately, when we get annoyed or tired or spammed, we tend to block out some stuff that our attention needs to be drawn to, i’m wondering if there is a system that can be implemented to emphasize the immediate attention required.

Welcome to the community @Rishav! :tada:
This must have been really scary. I’m sorry you’re going through this. You mentioned that the transactions were reported, have you reached out to our Support team about this yet?

Thank you! Yes, I have already reached out to Neo Support. I reported and disputed both unauthorized transactions immediately. Neo confirmed that the dispute is currently being reviewed by their team and that I’ll receive an update by email. They also mentioned that a temporary refund may be applied while the investigation is ongoing. I’ve also reported the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Thanks for letting us know.
