Interac transfer deposited notification

Feature: when user sends an Interac e-transfer, it is impossible to tell when or if it was deposited to the recipient. The funds leave the account right away, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the recipient gets them as Interact e-transfers are not fully instant/real time.

This creates an inconvenience especially if the recipient is waiting to receive funds right away (e.g. when picking up an item purchased on Facebook marketplace or kijiji).

What users would do is go into the app multiple times and go through all the menus to get to the transfer screen to see if it changes from processing to sent. This is an unnecessary hassle.

Wealthsimple offers a push notification that says “transfer received” that is sent to main screen, which is very convenient. I don’t know how they would know if the recipient received it. If it is the same notification as what happens when status changes from processing to sent, this event can be shown to user in a way that does not require constantly logging in multiple times and going through the menus.

Hi @Paul! I checked in with the team about push notifications, and it’s not currently on our roadmap or radar at this time.

That said, there are a couple of ways to confirm whether the e-transfer was deposited to the recipient:

  • Users can go into the payments tab and click on the e-transfer payment you are looking to check the status of. If the recipient deposited it, then you will see it labeled as complete. Otherwise, it will show as pending.

  • Users also receive emails when their e-transfers has been deposited.
