FAQ Friday: The United Card Edition ✈️

Happy Friday! It’s been a huge week for the United MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard®. To clear up some of the top questions we’ve seen in the community, here’s the quick lowdown:

  1. Who gets the perks?: Priority boarding and your free first checked bag are exclusive to flights operated by United or United Express. While you still earn miles on Star Alliance partners (like Air Canada), those specific airport perks are United-only.

  2. Where are my miles? Miles move a bit differently than instant cashback! You’ll see “Pending Miles” in your Neo app as you spend, but they are bundled and transferred to your United MileagePlus account once a month.

  3. What about NEXUS? The card includes a NEXUS fee credit (up to $120 USD) every 5 years. Just pay the application or renewal fee with your card, and we’ll give you a statement credit.

  4. Building credit? We offer a Secured version of this card! You get the same premium perks while using your own funds to build your credit.

Still have questions? Drop them below! :backhand_index_pointing_down:

i’m assuming you cannot transfer from one secured card to another. You would have to close the current secured card and then get this one?

@Collinvh You’re spot on, there isn’t a way to directly transfer funds or switch between different secured card products. You would need to pay off your current balance and close that account to have your security deposit returned. That said, you can actually have both cards open at the same time! You can simply apply for the United card separately. This way, you keep your existing credit history active while starting to rack up those travel miles on the new one. Whatever works best for your current budget.

When do the United miles get posted to your card or to your united account? I thought it was @ the end of the month?

This is my question. It’s May3rd and I don’t see any indication under rewards how many are being awarded for the month. I see the individual amounts but not a month total. Any update on when these points are actually going to be loaded. Nothing on my United Mileage account. Thanks!

Hi @Sooley38 & @Mrideas , Thank you for flagging this. There was a one time delay for posting United Miles as the first of the month fell on a Friday. The team is aware of the delay and are updating the process to ensure it does not happen again. You should see your monthly miles posted shortly. Moving forward, the monthly miles will be posted on the first of the month.

Hey there…any updates? I still don’t see the miles posted as of this morning May 7th. Thanks!

Your April miles should be posted now. However, the welcome bonus will be coming later. Are you seeing your miles now?

I can see my miles in the Neo app but not on the United Mileage program app.

United doesn’t allow us to sync the Miles in real time, it only updates once a month IIRC.

If anyone is seeing a faster sync, please do correct me on that.

I’m not sure I got welcome miles… how much was it?

I feel like I got lost in knowing if I got all the perks or if I’m missing something. Honestly it has been a busy month and is hard to keep up with it. It would be nice to have a automatic checklist that neo can show what has been claimed and what is remaining.

Might be a good idea to also be able to get some deals from United for cheap flights using those miles. It’s hard for me to understand how/when is the best time to use the miles. I’m more willing to use them if I’m notified of a deal

Feedback shared! This is gold!

I’m just wondering how long does it take for the United to recognize the cardmember’s benefit such as 10% discount on awards flight. I have tried to search different awards flights, but the United system does not recognize my MileagePlus account as a cardholder. My MileagePlus account is linked to Neo as I can see the United miles balance in the Neo app.

Been using the card for over a month and I had a couple of observations I thought I’d share and perhaps suggestions:

  1. it’s really really hard to reconcile how many miles I’ve earned for the month. There’s no overall total in the rewards section or monthly history. My recommendation like neo cash back cards do is let you know you’re overall cashback totals for lifetime earned. I think adding that somewhere would help reinforce how many overall miles I’ve earned. Let’s me know if it’s worthwhile to use the card to.
  2. Further to difficulty in reconciling is the slight differences in financial transaction dates vs reward dates vs dates in United Rewards. So in transaction history shows me one date. Rewards show me another date (thinking posted date) and united shows me another date. Also transactions near the end of the month show in rewards as being part of April but they actually posted to my account on May 1st/second. So in rewards it implies they are going at the end of the month to united rather they didn’t actually go at all.
  3. In my experience with other airline/hotel cards rewards on credit cards are lump sum totals submitted by category totals (united flights/bonus categories/regular spend) not by individual transactions. Again trying to reconcile miles earned vs miles submitted vs pending miles for end of May was incredibly frustrating.
  4. Suggestion here being a total of the miles by category in the rewards section on neo be displayed. So I know 2000 miles were earned and then submitted then I can more easily see that at united.
  5. Unless absolutely required by united total the categories and send lump sums. I had like 40 transactions roughly so matching them all up (given it’s a new card I just wanted to validate it on my end) was super painful.
  6. I would add to that some sort of miles earned in any particular month would be handy or miles earned ytd. Including any welcome or bonus miles as well.
  7. I was on the waitlist and applied as soon as I got the email. Used the card within a day or two however it seems like some people immediate got an email saying they earned some sort of welcome bonus however I see a fair number of people who never got that email. Does this mean I’m not getting the waitlist bonus or what? It’s very confusing.

Thanks!

To clarify point 6 I meant displayed on the statement :face_savoring_food:

I was wondering the same but I added my neo card as a payment method in the united app. Then checked a couple of days later and I saw the discount on using reward miles. Not sure if it’s required or was just a coincidence or what triggered it on the united app. Maybe try that and check a couple days later and see?

Awesome feedback, I’ve shared it verbatim with the United product team.

1.When do we receive bonus miles. It might be either 5000 first transaction/ spending 3000 get 15000? It’s been already 6-8 weeks and no update.

2.What’s a calendar month? Statement date or Month End?

Great questions. Bonus miles have been going out since last week. Did you receive an email when you hit the $3,000 spend threshold?
