Just discovered a new feature in Lyft - combining all day’s rides into one single charge to declutter the card statement. The message between the lines here seems to be to get users thinking about doing multiple rides per day, which is brilliant. With Neo, some kind of decluttering would likely be extremely useful given that Neo sends out an email with every transaction, but the only alternative seems to be to turn it off completely and not receive any emails about it. I think there could be some middle ground between 0 and million emails that would be very popular. The current option to change this is in profile → preferences/notifications → transactions → emails. This is not too hard to find for determined users, but users have to do the work to figure out where it is as there is no direct path to locate and adjust those settings from the email itself. A better product would correctly predict the user preference here - for example, if someone does one transaction per month, it would not prompt the user to consolidate notifications, but users with a high frequency of transactions can be automatically prompted towards a appropriate default setting.
What is really powerful here is that they do a walkthrough animation to guide the user through the process inside the email to experience what the change looks like with a gif that shows the whole thing step by step.

To finish off the email, there is a reassuring message that anticipates the concerns and addresses them. For those users that don’t like the change, there is an option to turn it off.
