Switching Secured Credit Cards

Hi there,

I have searched the forums and couldn’t find anything relevant to my question; apologies if there is somethign similar and didn’t come up in my search.

I currently have a secured neo CC, I plan to travel later this year for work and personal and wanted to take advantage of the Cathay WE card perks and benefits, which can also be a secured card. Is there a document which outlines the process to complete this?

Is it better to add the Cathay WE card and then close my current CC or vice versa? In terms of the requirements (income) I would meet this.

any information or best way to do this would be helpful

It’s great to have you join the community, @gsro87! :tada:
The good news is you don’t need to close your Current card to apply for the Cathay World Elite car, you can have both. Just to clarify, how long ago did you open your current card? That will determine whether you can apply for the Cathay card now or if you’ll need to wait a little longer. There’s a 3-month waiting period from when your current account was opened before you’re eligible to apply.

Thanks Yeni,

i would be applying for another secured card. This card has been opened for 2+ years now. I’d basically like to use the current security + additional funds so this is why i’m asking if there’s a particular process I should be following.

@gsro87 That makes total sense! Since you’ve had your current card for over two years, you’re well past the waiting period and can apply for the Cathay World Elite card anytime.

Just open the Neo app, tap Explore Products, select the Cathay card, and follow the prompts to complete your application. If you’re approved, you’ll be able to review and accept your offer right in the app.

Is there a process to transfer secured funds from Neo Mastercard to a world card? Or do the secured funds have to be withdrawn, card closed, and applied to the world card?

I don’t want two cards but would like to move from Mastercard to world.

I will suggest you apply for the Cathay card through the Neo app first and see what you’re offered (secured or not). If you get the unsecured version, that answers the question — no need to worry about a deposit at all. Then keep the old secured card open until the new one is active and everything (direct deposits, autopay, etc.) is transferred, and close it after.

Since Neo’s policies do shift (there were changes as recently as October 2025 to their application flow), I’d still recommend a quick chat with Neo support to confirm the current process for your specific accounts before you pull the trigger

Thanks for your contribution @efammonday. @stacypapp There’s no way to transfer your security deposit from a secured Neo Mastercard to a Neo World Mastercard. You can apply for the World card while keeping your secured card open. If you’re approved, you can then close the secured card. After any remaining balance is paid off, your security deposit will be refunded to your linked external financial Institution or to your Neo Money account.

Thanks for clarifying!

I logged in this morning and was able to easily transfer my secured Mastercard to secured World Mastercard - no need to withdraw, close, and transfer
