We’ve all been there: dinner wraps up, the bill arrives, and everyone reaches for their card.
Sometimes one person puts the entire bill on their credit card to earn the points or cashback, and everyone else sends their share afterward. Smart move… right?
Well, it can be! But if a large purchase pushes your credit utilization much higher than usual, it could temporarily impact your credit score until the balance is paid down. That’s one reason it’s worth keeping an eye on how much of your available credit you’re using, even if your friends pay you back right away.

Do you ask for separate bills, split the payment at the table, or do you have a designated “points collector” who takes the whole tab and settles up later?
@Yeni-Neo I use splitwise it allows adding people to group and then after each transaction you can add it to the app it shows how much you owe or is owed to you.
For me to depends on the friend group. Usually, we ask the server to split. Sometimes one person pays and we might pay back or we might not and instead rotate through the group for the next payer.
I’m replying a bit late to this, but for me it depends on the situation. If it’s just a one-time restaurant outing, we do separate bills. But when we go on vacations or weekend trips with friends, we usually use Tricount (similar to Splitwise), so one person pays and enters it to split the cost among the group afterward.
