Fast food not a restaurant?

Hi Neo Team,

I have a question about Neo’s definitions for restaurants and fast food.

For context, I have a Neo World Elite Mastercard with a premium subscription.

I stopped at a Tim Hortons while on a road trip and noticed that I got the everyday cash back rate of 1.5% and not the bars, restaurants, and cafe cash back rate of 7%.

The app says I got the everyday cash back rate because this is a fast food establishment and therefore unworthy of the title bar, restaurant, or cafe. I thought it would definitely be a restaurant for sure.

I feel like this could be a mistake, or maybe I am just learning the legal difference between a restaurant and fast food establishment.

In my mind they are sort of similar because I am paying for someone to prepare and serve me food, but i guess there is a small difference in where the food is eaten that makes up the 5.5% cash back difference - but I am not sure.

Can someone please clarify this for me?

Thanks!

PS. I wasnt able to provide feedback through the app, so decided to try here instead.

Thanks again!

Brad

Hi Brad, I hope you had a great weekend! Thank you for taking the time to bring this up! Sorry for the mix-up here. The 7% cashback you mentioned is actually the average rate across our Partner Network for restaurants, cafes, and bars.

It looks like your transaction wasn’t at a Partner location, which is why you only earned the flat cashback. In this case, you’re correctly getting 1.5%: that’s 1% for “everything else” purchases with your Neo World Elite Mastercard, plus an extra 0.5% from your Premium Perk.

As an example, if you go to a Partner restaurant and have both perks, your total cashback would be the Partner offer plus the flat cashback from your subscriptions.

If you tap on the specific perk in the app or website and then hit “Learn More” next to Cashback Offers, you’ll see the terms and conditions, which explain how Partner cashback works.

I hope this all makes sense, and I do truly apologize that this is not made more clear in your account. This is something I am actively addressing with our team to ensure more clarity can be provided so that this kind of confusion can be avoided in the future.
