Some specific, eligible customers have been invited to apply for what we’re hoping will be a game-changing new feature! This lets you link your bank account to share what’s missing from your credit report — how you actually spend your money! Our hope is that this will improve access to credit, especially for people who don’t use their credit cards for everything.
If you’ve gotten the invite, let us know how it went!
I think this is an awesome new feature, but what if you have more than 1 bank account?
In my case I have a credit union where payroll and savings are, then I have a zero fee account from Simplii for day to day use, and a CIBC account linked to specific monthly recurring payments which because of it’s account history length, just makes sense to keep that account open
I haven’t gotten an invite, but this would be such a good feature for someone like me. I have multi-stream income and use a few different accounts, but I usually transfer everything over to Neo since that’s my main spot for spending and savings. Especially after dealing with the mess of having 4 different credit files combined recently, having a way to show Neo my full financial picture directly would be so much easier.
I didn’t get this invite but I doubt it would make a difference in my case. Plus, I haven’t had my Neo WE Mastercard for a whole year yet, so asking for a credit limit increase now would be premature.
Alright, I did get the invite and tried it. I wasn’t really expecting much because I already had a pretty reasonable limit and it still hasn’t been a full year since I got my card but I just got a 35% increase in my credit limit. So I guess linking your primary (non-Neo) account does help.
This feature is genuinely important and I’m glad Neo is moving in this direction.
As a newcomer to Canada, one of the most frustrating things is that your financial history essentially restarts at zero when you arrive — even if you had an excellent credit profile in your home country. The traditional credit score system doesn’t capture how you actually manage money day-to-day.
Being able to link a bank account so that responsible spending behavior can be factored into a credit limit increase is exactly the kind of thinking that could make Neo the go-to product for newcomers. The existing credit scoring model was built for people who’ve been in Canada for decades. This feature is a step toward something more fair and more relevant.
Haven’t received the invite yet, but I’m very interested. Would love to see this expanded to all users eventually, especially with an option to eventually link multiple accounts for a more complete financial picture.
