It would be good if Neo launched a high annual fee World Legend Mastercard kind of like what Rogers did, featuring enhanced cashback, travel insurance, and premium perks. Lots of people are in the market for a “tier 1” premium card and it would help win over some of the current customers who are using a Visa Infinite Privilege or Amex Platinum or similar card from another bank.
I had this pitched too me by another insider. My response was simple. The better option is to expand the list of insiders and offer a wider range of benefits too all cardholders. This is what PC Financial launched when PC EXPRESS was rolled out in 2014/15.
For it’s worth, we got super close to launching the first Legend card in Canada, but ultimately decided not to complete it. I wasn’t around for that, so I don’t have the full details on the decision.
Have you seen the Rogers Legend card? What are your thoughts on that one?
Personally, I don’t think the Rogers World Legend card is as good as the Rogers World Elite card. All the Rogers World Legend has is include some Mastercard benefits like a Soho Friends account, FlexiRoam Data, and some other global benefits. Then Rogers adds on their own benefits like extra roaming days and a Rogers entertainment credit, which does provide extra value. But the rewards and fees are not really better. You still only earn 2% cashback (without caps, compared to Rogers lower tier cards now), and with no FX fee compared to Rogers lower tier cards. A Neo World Legend to be competitive would need to feature enhanced cashback (better than World Elite) across all categories, plus some benefits like an annual travel or some other sort of credit.
That’s exactly where I landed. The way Rogers presented it made me think they might nerf the World Elite.
For us, I think it’s about making it a high spend card. Uncapped, cashback abroad, free lounge access, etc.
I agree. I think a free Priority Pass membership in a potential Neo World Legend Mastercard would be a must.
100% agree. Maybe some free dining or something too. I wonder if we could use the partner network for that.
Neo Mastercard World Legend would need to be competitive with Visa Infinite Privilege or Amex Platinum so I would think there would need to be quite a few credits included too to help offset the annual fee. Maybe some credits that could be used at Neo partners or something, not just dining.
Yes! I just received an email the other day about mastercard world legend being launched in Canada and looked for this topic. It would be great if Neo could have this tier as an option too. I dont know all the musts but lounge access and the soho friends perks would be a great start. As someone else said, it should rival the Avion Visa Infinite Privilege perks as well.
We looked at it and came close to being the first place in Canada to offer a Legend card. I wasn’t around then, so I don’t really know why we dropped it. The Rogers Legend card seems underwhelming to me, what do you think?
