Budget 101 - Week 1: Know Your “Why” ⁉️

We’re starting a 6-week series to help us all get better at budgeting. No pressure, just real progress, one step at a time. If you’re up for it, I’d love for you to join me! Follow along, try out each weekly action item, let’s learn from each other and make this journey a little easier, together :handshake:

What Is a Budget?

A budget is a simple plan for your money. It helps you track what you earn, what you spend, and where you can save. Think of it as a financial roadmap that keeps you on track with your goals.

Why It Matters

  • Clarity: See exactly where your money goes

  • Control: Make intentional choices instead of reacting (Simply less impulse purchases)

  • Peace of Mind: Reduce stress and gain confidence in your finances

Common Budgeting Myths

  • “Budgeting is only for people with money problems”

  • “Budgets are too restrictive”

  • “It takes too much time”

Truth: A budget gives you freedom, not limits and it’s easier than you think. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I’ll be sharing my answers to the challenges, feel free to post yours here too, or just journal them for yourself!

1. Write down 1–2 personal money goals
I want to save for my trip and build up my emergency fund!
I plan to cook more at home, it’s a great way to learn new recipes and save money instead of eating out :cook:

2. Track your spending for the last 3–7 days (e.g., check your bank app or credit card statements)
It looks like I’ve spent a lot on eating out and picking up some new summer clothes :face_with_peeking_eye:

3. Journal how money makes you feel right now
Money makes me feel excited about what I can do with it, but also a bit anxious that I’m not saving enough.
