Paramount+ category querry

This might be a question directly for Grant since he seems to know everything but why is Paramount+ considered ‘telecom services’ its a streaming service, no different than netflix or amazon prime video or even more like Disney+, so if we would put it in movies category

I can do a hard guess but could be because of this :

Has nothing to do with paramount+ or the studio but this is my theory lol

This is the category in the transactions page of the app? Or for cashback purposes as it relates to the World or World Elite cards?

Generally, we receive very little info from the merchant with each charge (so the data cost is lower for everyone). The most pertinent piece is the MCC code, which merchants must choose to categorize themselves.

MCC codes are wildly inconsistent, creating the famously confusing situation that half the Walmarts are “grocery” and half are “wholesale”. We then attempt to categorize the 900 MCC codes into a reasonable number of broad categories for users.

Does that context help?

That is the most charming, weirdly targeted ISP I’ve ever seen.

It was under Category on the charge screen under details:

Card 1234 (obviously not my card)
Catgory Telecom Services

I think they just picked the wrong MCC code, to be honest. It’s probably just general “services”. I think Amazon does that as well. You can try contacting them to get them to switch it. It’s not always successful, but sometimes there’s a whole lot of people asking for it and you become the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
