We’ve seen a few questions about credit limit increases come up lately, so here’s a quick refresher:

**Can I request a credit limit increase?**
Yep! You can request one through the Neo app.

**Will my request automatically be approved?**
Not necessarily. Each request goes through a review, and approval depends on a number of factors.

**Does asking for an increase hurt my credit score?**
A request for a credit limit increase may involve a credit check, depending on the situation.

**Do I need to increase my limit?**
Not at all! A higher limit can give you more flexibility, but what matters most is using your credit comfortably and making your payments on time.

I wanted to raise my limit a few weeks go but stupidly forgot to unlock my credit at the credit bureaus. Is there anyway to ask again without waiting 3 months ?

What factors are considered before making a decision? I am curious to understand the process.

@San10 The review process can vary from customer to customer, so I wouldn’t be able to share the specific criteria used for an individual credit limit increase decision. From a general perspective, things like payment history, credit utilization, and your overall credit profile can play a role. Other factors that may be considered include the length of your credit history, your existing credit accounts and obligations, your account history with Neo, and your overall card usage and payment patterns. Every request is reviewed individually, and these factors don’t guarantee an approval.

@Moofo Ah, that makes sense! I can see you’ll be able to request another increase on the 27th, but we aren’t able to bypass the waiting period. Hopefully the next request goes smoothly once your credit is unlocked.

Speaking of this, I bet I’m not alone in feeling like credit score calculations resemble [the bailout process from South Park with the chicken](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvYvQeNeq3A). I’m sure there’s a variety of secret and shareable factors, both personalized and generally applicable, and to the maximum extent possible, letting people see everything they can would give much welcomed clarity into the process!

To that end, I think it would be cool to get:

- a rundown on the universally applicable factors that make it move as just a help article, either here, or on the site, reddit, etc. (if it doesn’t already exist), and (if you wanna go the extra mile)
- a personalized breakdown in the app/website that shows what specifically contributed to driving _your score_ up and/or down since the last reading (if it doesn’t already), and what you could do to improve it going forward.

I don’t yet have access to the credit score tracking on the website/app so for all I know it already does this (or is planned to soon) and if so, awesome, and sorry! 😅 But it came to mind so thought I’d share.

honestly, while I love the Neo card features and cash back, but I hate the credit increase portion. it took them 2 years to increase my limit and I had to make several requests. Current limit, been there for 3 years now, and no change, requested and I denied. A feature maybe we need to include is the auto credit increase like other cards, depending on usage and not based on request.

</div>

I have read that higher credit limit vs actual usage can negatively impact the credit score. But if in general case it’s an actual need I would agree it needs to be automatically looked into or give user the option to accept increase or decline.

Don’t know where you read that but it’s wrong. A higher, unused credit limit means a lower utilization ratio both on that account and overall. This in turn can increase your score a little.

</div>

You’re right, AFAIK. Totally unused credit lines do help with utilization and account history, but don’t increase on-time payments so they’re usually not super impactful. I suspect, but don’t know for sure, that having tons of open credit might be a negative at some point, just because the total exposure could get really high. I have seen this play mostly for people who suddenly start businesses, or get divorced.

I’m sorta unhappy.

I requested a limit increase again and was denied. Some other card has no problem giving me the 8k I would Like. Currently stuck at 6k.

paid my bill on time every month. Starting to look at my options.

I feel you, it can be frustrating when you’re not getting increases. Out of curiosity, why do you need the bump? $6k is a reasonably large amount to put on a credit card every month.

One car repair here. A vacation there. It adds up quickly. It also provides the freedom to buy other stuff such as when I had to replace my heat pump (6k$) with less planning.

obviously points are interesting too.

I guess it’s more cushion if you’re moving more money through your accounts each month. Given that credit cards are expensive, I imagine you’re still intended to pay those things off in the payment month anyway?

</div>

Absolutely. Keep in mind also that advantages such ans extended warranty is useful and appliances are expensive

I saved 800 on a dishwasher repair when it broke outside the warranty but was still covered by the card.

I can move money throughout the month, it’s just annoying.

Warranty is becoming a non-negotiable as the lifespan of appliances is shortening. I don’t like the trend myself.
